Skincare is no longer an exclusively female habit. Men are investing more heavily in self-care, and consumer research already reflects this shift. A Kantar survey found that 72% of Brazilian men are interested in beauty products developed for male consumers, up from 70% the previous year.
The figures mirror a change that is already visible in consumers’ everyday routines. Research conducted by Opinion Box for Grupo MedSystems shows that 41% of Brazilian men say they follow a skin-care routine. This demonstrates that skincare is increasingly seen as a practice connected to health, wellbeing and prevention, rather than simply an aesthetic concern.
A simple routine can make a difference
Despite growing interest, many people still believe that caring for the skin requires a large number of products or complicated procedures. In reality, a straightforward, consistent routine is enough to keep skin healthy and protected.
According to Luana Batista, educational coordinator, biomedical scientist and aesthetician at Raavi Dermocosméticos, male skin has particular characteristics that need attention. “Because of hormonal activity, it is usually thicker and produces more oil. In addition, frequent shaving can lead to irritation, sensitivity and ingrown hairs. A simple care routine helps to keep the skin balanced and healthy,” she explains.
The specialist stresses that consistency is the key to effective care. “We have noticed that many men are looking for a practical and efficient routine. What matters is understanding that skincare does not mean an extensive sequence of products. Daily cleansing, moisturising and sun protection are enough to keep skin healthy, prevent shaving-related irritation and minimise the signs of ageing,” she says.
Men’s skincare step by step
Following a basic care routine can improve both the health and appearance of male skin. Here are the main steps:
1. Cleansing
Start by washing the face with a facial cleanser suited to your skin type. Cleansing removes excess oil, sweat, pollution residue and impurities that build up throughout the day.
2. Moisturising
Even oily skin needs moisturiser. Lightweight formulas help maintain the skin’s protective barrier without increasing unwanted shine.
3. Sun protection
Sunscreen should be applied every day, including on cloudy days or when most of the day is spent indoors. Regular use helps prevent dark spots and premature ageing, while reducing damage caused by ultraviolet radiation.
4. Exfoliation
Exfoliating once or twice a week helps remove dead skin cells, unclog pores and reduce ingrown hairs, particularly for those who shave frequently.
Pay attention to individual skin needs
For Luana Batista, another essential measure is respecting the individual needs of the skin. “Not every skin type needs the same products. Paying attention to how it reacts and choosing suitable formulas makes all the difference in achieving results without causing irritation. If there is a specific condition, such as severe acne or persistent sensitivity, it is worth seeking professional advice,” she concludes.
